ADHD Help with Homework and Time Management Strategies.

 ADHD Awareness Month & CHADD

October is ADHD Awareness month, usually that month is dedicated to ADHD and getting the word out about it.  I haven't seen many fundraising walks to ADHD in the past, but there is a lot of walks related to mental health awareness.  I was looking around for different events related to ADHD, and I stumbled across the website www.chadd.com.  CHADD stands for Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, they are an organization that tries to help with awareness for people battling ADHD.  During the pandemic, everyone has been affected in different ways but people with ADHD have rally struggled.

Virtual Help through the Pandemic

CHADD, has had different virtual events to help people with ADHD figure out solutions to help with problems.  Different types of doctors are creating these zoom calls and presentations so people get the help they need virtually.  All of the past event's zoom presentations are posted online so people has access to them after the event has happened.  The event that I chose was "Ask the Expert: Homework, Organization, and Time Management Strategies to Help Kids with ADHD" by Melissa Dvorsky PhD.  She goes in depth on how to help children with switching to remote learning and how to balance time and get things done effectively.  The picture I chose was from part of the presentation that Dr.Melissa was giving.

Presentation & Information

I was really impressed with the information that Dr.Melissa talked about during her presentation.  She really brought to life what children with ADHD go through.  Being able to stay on task is what people with ADHD struggle with the most, and she talked about ways to how to deal and balance with that.  A big thing that she talked about was organization.  Making sure that everything in the backpack is put away and not thrown everywhere.  If you have a clean set up, children are more likely to sit down and be able to focus more.  The last big idea that she touched on was planning in advance.  This is sometimes very stressful for children, they could use a little guidance in this aspect.  Help from parents is key here.

Conclusion

Overall, I am very impressed with the CHADD website.  They make it very accessible for anyone who needs help, has access to information.  During this time, it can be very frustrating to try to help children who are struggling.  I really like how any presentation from past events you can go back and get information from.
